Description Konrad Wyzykowski 2011-02-26 20:36:02 UTC
Gentoo 2.6.36 running on Hyper-V virtual machine. I'm trying to make network adapter working. When I compile staging drivers -> Microsoft Hyper V and if I want to start system with the new kernel, I have to disconnect Nework Adapter in Hyper-V, because if I don't do it, it stops on udev events with erros, something like that:

[ 11.333821] Stack:
[ 11.337316] Call Trace:
[ 11/339378] Code: ff ff 48 83 7b 38 00 74 0d eb 1d 31 f6 e8 ba f7 ff ff 85 c0 74 12 4c 89 e7 e8 88 f9 ff ff e8 81 b5 ff ff 49 89 c4 eb a7 fb 41 5b <5b> 41 5c 41 5d c9 c3 55 48 c7 c0 e0 f1 00 00 48 89 e5 41 57 41

If I disconnect Network Adapter in Hyper-V, it generates many errors like above, but I can login and use my system.

I tried:

 dmesg | less

to try to find out what's happening, and before that errors, there is something like that:

BUG: sheduling while atomic: swapper/0/0x10000100

I recompiled the kernel without multiprocessor support but it doesn't help...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Gentoo on Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machine. Use Legacy Network Adapter - it don't need any drivers.
2. Recompile the kernel to include Staging->Microsoft Hyper-V drivers.
3. Run virtual machine with new kernel - with all network adapters disconnected in Hyper-V.
4. There are many erros while "processing udev events", errors like that:

Sometimes system passes these arrors and You can log in, sometimes it stops on these errors.

5. Power off virtual machine and connect 'normal' (not Legacy) network adapter in Hyper-V.

6. Start the system. There are many errors while 'processing udev events', but system cannot pass them and You can't login anytime.

Actual Results:
System stops on 'processing udev events'.

Expected Results:
Start normally, without errors. Network adapter should work.

Is this something that has worked in the past that is not working now?
Have you attempted this with 2.6.38 kernels?
Comment 2 Konrad Wyzykowski 2011-03-17 13:34:19 UTC
No, I'm trying this for the first time. I did't try this with 2.6.38. Thank You for Your response to this problem.
Comment 3 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2011-03-23 00:49:31 UTC
Ok, can you try gentoo-sources-2.6.38
