There is no configure patch for irssi-0.8.9 in the current Portage tree and here is how src_unpack ends:

 * Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!  Value for $EPATCH_SOURCE is:
 * 
 *   /usr/portage/net-irc/irssi/files/irssi-0.8.9-configure.patch

I'd say that no patch is necessary for this version of irssi. The epatch line can IMO be safely removed from the ebuild.

i agree with you. the patch isn't necessary because the patch of version 0.8.8 just changed a 'head -1' to a 'head -n 1', but the configure of 0.8.9 already uses the -n parameter

removed epatch line, no patch required for configure anymore. As mentioned in the comments they are now using head -n.
