glibc-2.13-r1 fails to compile, while glibc-2.13 compiled just fine. Recompilation sandbox didn't help. As temporary solution compiled glibc with FEATURES="-sandbox", works well.

I need the same workaround: FEATURES="${FEATURES} -sandbox" The issue is related to sys-libs/glibc-2.11.3 and sys-libs/glibc-2.12.1-r3 and I cannot post the build log (it has been overwritten during the workaround). The error was relative to different files on each attempt, terminating with a sandbox dump. Note, please, that I am on VPS (OpenVZ), so on a very "old" kernel (2.6.18). emerge --info is below Sergio
please post actual build logs as attachments. both Taras's and Tino's build logs are for glibc-2.13-r1, and show the same issue. what's odd is that the logs both show a 64bit binary being run, but the 32bit libsandbox is in the trace. the 32bit sandbox does not support multiple ABIs like the 64bit sandbox, so i imagine that's why it is crashing ... it's trying to trace the 64bit app like a 32bit app. but the 32bit sandbox lib shouldnt have been loaded ... can you guys try running these things and post the output ? file /usr/bin/sandbox sandbox grep sandbox /proc/self/maps ls -ld /usr/lib*

Created attachment 268063 [details] Build failure. Due to the very tiny VPS size, I don't log the successful build. Here is, instead, the log of the last FAILURE, before disabling the sandbox.
i dont think your issue is the same
ok, sorry for the "noise".
you might want to see if sandbox-2.5 runs any better
(In reply to comment #12) > i dont think your issue is the same Are you sure about this? On my multilib system I have the same fail as Sergio. Note that the OR seems to be about about multilib glibc trying to build for amd64, but uses lib32/libsandbox.so While for me and Sergio we seems to have the oppsite, here we have nearly identical error messages as OR when multilib glibc tries to build fox x86, but uses lib64/libsandbox.so. So it seems to be different bugs, but the same cause (sandbox uses the wrong lib). Or am I missing something obvious?
I have a very similar failure with glibc-2.11.3. Sandbox violation when running mkinstalldirs in sunrpc/rpcsvc with -o pointing to a .T file. This is with sandbox-2.5 on a 64-bit Funtoo Linux system. Also reproduced with glibc-2.11.2.
Note: we only seem to be able to reproduce this bug on a *really old* kernel too - the latest RHEL5-based OpenVZ kernel. 2.6.18-028stab091.1. So just like Sergio. Note: the builds fail outside the containers. I am not testing the build inside the container. Spanky, isn't this a rehash of an older bug related to sandbox on a RHEL5 kernel? Seems to be kernel-related, either to RHEL5 or some peculiarities with the RHEL5 OpenVZ kernel.
i believe redhat heavily patches the ptrace stuff in the kernel (for utrace and friends). but the original reporter is not using an old kernel or RHEL.
please re-open if it still fails on non-ancient kernels. don't really have the cycles/inclination to chase this down on super old systems.
