I cant manage to build with emerge the VMWare Gallium driver for Xorg; should be in:

  /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vmwgfx_drv.so

All the "classic", "vmware" and "gallium" flags are set:
root@sysresccd /root % emerge -pv mesa

* IMPORTANT: 1 config files in '/etc/portage' need updating.
* See the CONFIGURATION FILES section of the emerge
* man page to learn how to update config files.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] media-libs/mesa-7.9 USE="classic gallium nptl -debug -gles -llvm -motif -pic (-selinux)" VIDEO_CARDS="intel mach64 r128 radeon sis via vmware -mga -nouveau -savage -tdfx" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
In the ebuild they call it also "gallium-svga", but "svga" is "use.mask"ED globally from the profile.

Other components are properly installed:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 17088 Feb 1 06:11 /usr/include/libdrm/vmwgfx_drm.h

  new - manually added:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4352349 Feb 11 17:34 /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vmwgfx_drv.so

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           21 Feb 10 19:51 /usr/lib/dri/vmwgfx_dri.so -> ../mesa/vmwgfx_dri.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2491360 Feb 10 19:51 /usr/lib/mesa/vmwgfx_dri.so
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 5 00:47 /lib/modules/2.6.35.6-ivan/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 88318 Nov 5 00:47 /lib/modules/2.6.35.6-ivan/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx/vmwgfx.ko

Strangly enough, after manually untaring the distfile and
configure --enable-gallium-svga
make
it got build !
/media/SYSRESCCD/portage/distfiles/Mesa-7.9/src/gallium/targets/xorg-vmwgfx/vmwgfx_drv.so
so I just copied it to the xorg drivers location...

Ive got no clue whats is going wrong else. Any ideas ? - Thanks in advance !

In the ebuild I added "xorg" to the state trackers list

  --with-state-trackers=glx,dri,egl,vega,xorg

and got vmwgfx_drv.so installed. (tested with mesa-7.9.1)

As my intention was explicitly to not mess with the ebuild - if this is supposed to be a fix ? Who is then in charge to transfer it into the portage tree ? - Thanks !
Comment 3 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2011-02-22 20:49:45 UTC
Adding the xorg state tracker will cause circular dependency issues, as it cannot be built before xorg-server.

not work for mesa-7.11
Comment 5 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2013-02-23 03:09:18 UTC
7.9 is no longer in the tree.
