Return and Escape Keys do not Respond in shutter-0.86.4. Looks like
the problem is an incompatible change introduced in  gtk+-2.22.X

Version 0.87.1 has been released and according to the release notes,
this bug has been fixed.

Unfortunately, it looks like a new dependency on the Gtk2::Unique module
has been introduced and there is currently  no ebuild for this module in portage.
