Description Fabien Fivaz 2003-12-09 07:34:57 UTC
I upgraded to kernel 2.4.20-r9 from r8 using genkernel. After succefull
compilation and installation, I upgraded GRUB and rebooted. The kernel keeps
looping after initializing SCSI devices. I got a message like "Yeeps, kernel in
an infinite loop" (it goes away so fast, I can't read everything).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. genkernel
2. configure GRUB
3. reboot

Actual Results:
Kernel goes into an infinite loop

Expected Results:
Normal startup

please try the current gentoo-sources (2.4.22-r1)... It's probably fixed.

I have exactly the same problem with any kernel I've tried (the latest gentoo-sources, gaming sources and ck-sources). So it doesn't look like it's fixed. My card is an Adaptec AHA-2940UW working fine with the aic7xxx module during live CD bootup

Can you confirm that this doesn't happen in -r8? Can I suggest that you try bug #35342 comment #3?

2.4.22-r7 is stable
