After update of Thunar i cannot mount CD-ROM's. I am running a '-hal' system. Error message is: 'Error mounting: mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only'. This is a little misleading, the error occurs in udisks of gvfs. I had to comment my fstab entries, so /dev/sr0 is not recognised as read only. udisks --mount /dev/sr0 failes with above message udisks --mout-fstype=auto --mount /dev/sr0 works as expected As gvfs-mount relies on udisks, it will not work either nor will thunar. ck-list-sessions says active=TRUE and login-session-id as positive integer Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Insert CD, wait for icon to appear 2.Click Open or Mount in Thunar menu 3.Watch error dialog Actual Results: Error message: Mount failed: Error mounting: mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so Expected Results: CD-Rom should be mounted /usr/bin/ck-list-sessions Session1: unix-user = '1001' realname = '(null)' seat = 'Seat1' session-type = '' active = TRUE x11-display = ':0' x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7' display-device = '' remote-host-name = '' is-local = TRUE on-since = '2011-02-10T11:18:48.800317Z' login-session-id = '4294967295'
If it's failing on udisks --mount, then it's not a problem with gnome-base/gvfs or xfce-base/thunar. Moving this to udisks maintainers. - What version of udisks? - emerge --info? - And what filesystem is on that disc?

(In reply to comment #2) > [I--] [ ] sys-fs/udisks-1.0.1-r1 (0) OK, can you try 1.0.2 please? 1.0.1-r1 is obsolete.
Sorry, but it took some time to update. I switched to: [I--] [ ~] sys-fs/udisks-1.0.2 but behaviour is the same as before. dmesg says: ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3 (two times) /var/log/messages holds the same info, but nothing more
Partial fix, at least ! Looking around my inventory i found, that my notebook compiled against the same portage snapshot corrcetly identified the cd and mounted it. The main difference i found was, that the notebook had a kernel built from a fresh .config file, while the workstations used kernels built by 'make oldconfig'. Installing kernels from a fresh '.config' file fixed the problem. A 'diff' between the 'old' and the 'fresh' .config gives 1700 lines and although i regulary build my own kernels i would not consider myself an expert in this field. But if anybody feels inclined to try, just send me a mail
