I think it would be really nice if app-office/libreoffice were split. I think that it is likely that many users don't need the whole suite, but instead need only a select few of the components (writer, calc i think are most common). It is a very large piece of software, that takes a very long time to compile. Obviously if this were done, it would be ideal to have app-office/libreoffice be a meta ebuild that pulled in all of the others so that people who want the whole thing can still get it with one emerge command. I recognize that people who want it installed fast can just go with the -bin packages, but for those who choose to compile from source, no need to force them to build and install parts which won't ever get used. Reproducible: Always
Must be groundhog day ;-) This issue has come up multiple times for OOo, but the reality is, this idea is based on wrong assumptions: By far the biggest part of LibreOffice is common code, so disabling certain frontends won't save you a lot. Also we are talking about pure theory atm as it's simply not possible to disable the building of certain components like Base or Impress currently, guess upstream would be very happy if someone wants to work on this. (https://bugs.freedesktop.org) All we could do atm is disabling the install of certain components, but as this won't save you any build time (and would create wrong expectations), I really don't see this as a high-priority bug. Closing.
