I duly upgraded to xfce 4.8.0 when the newer version was released in portage. What happened was I started to experience wierd behaviors almost making the xfce session unusable. It appears that cached sessions from prior versions in my .cache/sessions directory were the culprit. The emerge should address this issue possibly by moving the old session files to something innocuous and/or prompting the user to delete them warning them that keeping the old session caches will cripple 4.8.0's ability to work properly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge xfce [various] to 4.8.0 2. startx Actual Results: See http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6570913.html#6570913 Expected Results: Should be able to manage desktop and move windows about.
Thanks for the feedback. I found it happen on only one of my upgrades. An ebuild should definately *not* touch anything in $HOME though. As for a warning message, debatable too, because it isn't relavant to *everyone*

It should recommend people to wipe old: ~/.cache ~/.config/xfce* ~/.config/Thunar in case of problems after upgrading.

As I recall, the initial reboot following upgrade presented me with a popup with a choice to 'default xfce settings or convert'. I chose convert.. next time default. In any event, a 'post install warning' to 'wipe old' in case of problems seems in order to me. Thanks.
Fixed in the docs, so closing this bug.
