When upgrading from x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.13.2 to x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.14.0 I encountered display corruptions. They do not occur immediately after starting xorg/kde but after a while. After downgrading to x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.13.2 the problem disappeared. Graphics chip is according to lspci: ATI Technologies Inc M52 [Mobility Radeon X1300]. This bug might be related to the following upstream bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org//show_bug.cgi?id=33943 Reproducible: Always
The provisional solution with using x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.14.0 is: edit xorg.conf with nano or other editor: #nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf add the option in section monitor: Option "ColorTiling" "False" save the changes, restart X, = the X window system is not appears garbage or Display disturbances with urxvt or other app :)

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=31704510f448706524b7b7085cc4ff0ada7bfe7e this upstream commit should fix the issue.

My workaround (at the cost of a rather alarming 1-minute delay upon kernel init at reboot time) was to deactivate the in-kernel firmware blobs. It's probably safer to downgrade xf86-video-ati instead. Device Drivers ---> Generic Driver Options ---> [ ] Include in-kernel firmware blobs in kernel binary
Sorry, my old ThinkPad T60 with Mobility Radeon X1300 is dead so I cannot verify the fix anymore. Does anyone else have this hardware and can verify? Otherwise please feel free to close it.
