Description Dominique LaSalle 2011-02-07 18:39:49 UTC
Infrequently the screen will go black and the computer will be unresponsive (except to SysRq keys), after locking it with xlock (x11-misc/xlockmore). After looking through /var/log/messages, I've noticed an fglrx error complaining about an ASIC hang. This message is always exactly 3 minutes after the xlock start message.

Reproducible: Sometimes

The computer is remains pingable in this state and the lock shows that it continues to run cron jobs. I've tried upgrading the ati-drives, using both ATI's package from their website and x11-drivers/ati-drivers (currently 10.11).

This problem has also persisted through kernel upgrades (2.6.34-gentoo-r12 to 2.6.36-gentoo-r5).

Sounds like an ati-drivers bug, which we're not able to handle. Hopefully fixed long ago at this point.
