Description Martin Doucha 2011-02-06 12:41:02 UTC
Since I've updated to KDE 4.6.0 yesterday, the KDE panel autohide feature stopped working. To be more specific, the panel hides perfectly well after fresh login but only until I open the first window. Since then, it's stuck open and overlaps windows. It doesn't autohide ever again even if I close all windows. The "can be overlapped by windows" setting doesn't work either, when I move a window over the panel, the panel stays on top hiding part of the window. Switching among the settings doesn't solve the problem.

Reproducible: Always

Correction: The panel gets stuck since the first time I open the K menu. If I open a window through somewhere else, autohide still works fine.

I can confirm as I also have this problem on all of my computers. emerge --info attached. (sorry for the double post, should have added comment to the attachment)

Same here. And all my entries in the Application launcher menu are gone too. Sigh...

Ah well it was a .0 release... any better luck with 4.6.1 (or 4.6.2, comes out this week)?

According to upstream bugreport, this has been fixed in 4.6.2 by adding timeout to each unhide request. The panel starts hiding again after a few seconds even if the offending application doesn't clear its request.

What I don’t get though, is how come it worked in the first place until 4.6.0? Why wasn’t that logic just left in place? Was there a bug with it? If yes, which one?

Because if no, one could just drop in the old logic, and it would work again. Then add a warning, not to change a working system. ;)

IIRC before 4.6, applications couldn't force the panel to unhide. This is completely new (mis)feature.

Fixed in 4.6.2 according to upstream bug
