No, the problem is net-mail/mailwrapper, which was effectively dropped awhile ago.
Uninstall mail-wrapper and ssmtp and you should be fine.

Right. ssmtp is installed by default and its files would collide with courier's so you need to first uninstall ssmtp and then you can install courier.
