The high watermark for webapp-config in portage is:

atom webapp-config # eix webapp-config
[I] app-admin/webapp-config
     Available versions:  1.50.16-r1 ~1.50.16-r4
     Installed versions:  1.50.16-r1(22:20:37 01/23/11)
     Homepage:            http://sourceforge.net/projects/webapp-config/
     Description:         Gentoo's installer for web-based applications

atom webapp-config #

Yet, the project at Sourceforge has the current release at 1.50.18.

There are lots of unresolved bugs against webapp-config, yet Gentoo is not using the latest version from Sourceforge.  Absent a definitive statement from the Sourceforge project owners that the application is dead, it seems Gentoo ought to give webapp-config a fighting chance by having the most current version available.

Looks like I get to return to my webapp roots for a while.
Bumped now, works for me to install a couple of apps in testing.
