Just upgrade to the latest HPLIP and I'm having problems. I don't know if they're something on my end but the hplip-3.10.9 package is showing the old 2.8.6b, even though I uninstalled everything and reinstalled, with a check in between to see if the files were indeed gone after the uninstall. If you run "ls /etc/hp/" I bet you get something like this ._cfg0000_hplip.conf hplip.conf The version string used for all hplip tools is stored in this (/etc/hp/hplip.conf) config file which you have not yet updated by using etc-update, dispatch-conf or the like.
