Description Ian Abbott 2011-01-25 15:16:50 UTC
With any version of dev-vcs/git from git-1.7.3.4-r1 to git-1.7.4_rc3 installed, running git instaweb fails with the following message:

/usr/libexec/git-core/git-instaweb: line 135: /usr/bin/env perl: No such file or directory
http://127.0.0.1:1234

This is in the check to see if the web server has started (which it has in my case).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =dev-vcs/git-1.7.4_rc3
2. emerge a suitable web server, e.g. lighttpd
3. git instaweb

Actual Results:
/usr/libexec/git-core/git-instaweb: line 135: /usr/bin/env perl: No such file or directory
http://127.0.0.1:1234

Expected Results:
It should run up a web browser to look at the git instaweb results.

Line 135 of /usr/libexex/git-core/git-instaweb is part of the following shell function:

httpd_is_ready () {
        "$PERL" -MIO::Socket::INET -e "
local \$| = 1; # turn on autoflush
exit if (IO::Socket::INET->new('127.0.0.1:$port'));
print 'Waiting for \'$httpd\' to start ..';
do {
        print '.';
        sleep(1);
} until (IO::Socket::INET->new('127.0.0.1:$port'));
print qq! (done)\n!;
"
}

Also, the $PERL variable is set to '/usr/bin/env perl' on line 6. The script treats this as a single word and fails because it cannot exec it.

This appears to be caused by the fix to bug #365625.

Some possible fixes (which I haven't tried yet) are:

1. remove the quotes around "$PERL" in the script.

or 2. Change PERL_PATH in the ebuild to "${EPREFIX}/usr/bin/perl".

Sorry, that should be bug #326625.

Looks like a dupe of bug 351279, but this one has a better description IMHO.
