Description memphis 2011-01-23 02:39:48 UTC
Aftetr upgrade (via "emere -av --deep world" ) on sys-libs/pam-1.1.3 is kdm (kde-base/kdm-4.4.5) broken. It start like usual, but login dont work. Here is debug kdm (> kdm -debug 0x2 ) to syslog output:

Jan 22 21:23:31 kile kdm: :0[2672]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib64/security/pam_env.so): /usr/lib64/libpam.so.0: version `LIBPAM_MODUTIL_1.1.3' not found (required by /lib64/security/pam_env.so)
Jan 22 21:23:31 kile kdm: :0[2672]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib64/security/pam_env.so
Jan 22 21:23:41 kile kdm: :0[2672]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib64/security/pam_env.so): /usr/lib64/libpam.so.0: version `LIBPAM_MODUTIL_1.1.3' not found (required by /lib64/security/pam_env.so)
Jan 22 21:23:41 kile kdm: :0[2672]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib64/security/pam_env.so

I re-emerged:
kde-base/kdebase-pam
sys-auth/pambase
all package from kde:
@system
qlist -I -C kde

Login to kde-desktop over GDM works fine ( same as like sshd, local login)

Reproducible: Always

Okay now's a funky thing I didn't notice the first time around:

/usr/lib64/libpam.so.0

we _never_ installed libpam there. Please sanitize your system; I'm not really sure how that ever arrived there.
Comment 4 memphis 2011-02-05 00:42:27 UTC
yes, you have right... after i deleted libpam* from /usr/lib64, kdm works fine. thank you.
