compFUSEd is a compressed overlay filesystem for Linux that supports both transparent read and write operations. In other words, it provides transparent compression of your files while storing them on an existing filesystem. You can add compression to your existing filesystem in under 5 minutes. There is no need to reformat, and no kernel patches are required. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: other info about compiling/configuring: http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/137234
fuseCompress seems to be more mature and already has an ebuild in bugzilla: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127433
