Created attachment 259541 [details] build.log Forgot to say that with USE="-threads" the testsuite passes fine.

Reassigning to maintainer.
Well, I did a little digging. It only happens some of the time (and consequently much less of the time when you're trying to strace it). Upstream has been e-mailed with the relevant info.
Get the same on HPPA. There is little that testthread.cxx does, but the bit shifting immediately caught my eye so I assumed it was an endian problem until I saw this bug report.

Have the same issue at an stable x86, added upstream too, got no reply, test case fails always at my system: tfoerste@n22 ~ $ emerge --info =dev-libs/beecrypt-4.2.1 Portage 2.1.10.44 (default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop/kde, gcc-4.5.3, glibc-2.13-r4, 3.2.8-rc1 i686) ================================================================= System Settings ================================================================= System uname: Linux-3.2.8-rc1-i686-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_Duo_CPU_P8600_@_2.40GHz-with-gentoo-2.0.3 Timestamp of tree: Mon, 27 Feb 2012 12:15:01 +0000 ccache version 3.1.6 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 4.1_p9 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.11-r3 dev-lang/python: 2.7.2-r3, 3.1.4-r3 dev-util/ccache: 3.1.6 dev-util/cmake: 2.8.4-r1 dev-util/pkgconfig: 0.26 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.3 sys-apps/openrc: 0.9.8.4 sys-apps/sandbox: 2.5 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.68 sys-devel/automake: 1.9.6-r3, 1.10.3, 1.11.1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.21.1-r1 sys-devel/gcc: 4.5.3-r2 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.4-r1 sys-devel/make: 3.82-r1 sys-kernel/linux-headers: 3.1 (virtual/os-headers) sys-libs/glibc: 2.13-r4
Does that test failure imply beecrypt with threads is broken? If yes, we should either fix its support with threads (in that case we need a patch) or drop its support completely. If not, we should skip that broken test.
Is this still valid for 4.2.1-r4? Thanks
(In reply to Amy Liffey from comment #9) > Is this still valid for 4.2.1-r4? The packages still fails to build, yes. The output is slightly different though. Tested with both gcc 4.9 and 5.4. Attaching the build log in a minute.

And for completeness sake, the only way to build it was to USE -cxx -threads
The error around static_assert looks like c++11 and gcc 4.9 does not default to c++11 (I think) Maybe force stdc++11 in ebuild ?
(In reply to Joakim Tjernlund from comment #14) > The error around static_assert looks like c++11 and > gcc 4.9 does not default to c++11 (I think) > Maybe force stdc++11 in ebuild ? It builds with -std=c++11 in CXXFLAGS
Actually, the static_assert was added by beecrypt-4.2.1-cast-uchar.patch Maybe wrap that static_assert with #if __cplusplus >= 201103L static_assert(sizeof(jchar) == sizeof(UChar), "jchar and UChar sizes mismatch"); #endif
