Description edoceo 2011-01-09 14:44:58 UTC
dev-php/PEAR-PEAR depends on some run-time files included with the dev-php/pear package. It's possible to install dev-php/PEAR-PEAR without dev-php/pear so when you run commands like `pecl install APC` it will throw errors like:

--
Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'Console/Getopt.php' (include_path='/usr/share/php') in /usr/share/php/System.php on line 21
--

Other PEAR packages showed this error too

I think that adding "dev-php/pear" to the RDEPEND on dev-php/PEAR-PEAR will fix it.

Hi,

Installing pear/pecl packages directly through cli is not supported. Please use the provided ebuilds instead. E.g APC can be installed through the package pecl-apc.

Cheers!

What I notice is that if I instal 'dev-php/pear' - which gets the sub-package PEAR-PEAR which actually provides the pecl script.

So perhaps my issue was installing the wrong package. Maybe PEAR-PEAR should tell users - "you likely want dev-php/pear instead"

I agree that this is a bit of a chicken/egg problem, but as you actually want both, and pear is the last package to install, it is a bit difficult to provide a warning here. Besides, the errors you get from PHP is actually quite descriptive and should give a hint as to what you need to install. Also, we do not get many complaints about this, so I do not think this is an issue. (You are at least the first one to report something like this).

Thanks for your concerns anyway :)

Cheers!
