Starting GCompris in administration mode shows a window for a blink of an eye and the program hangs. GCompris version: games-kids/gcompris-9.2.2 CGompris version 8.4.12 is OK.

try it with 9.5 also try removing your old config files and see if there's a problem with old cruft lying around.
I tried to move .config/gcompris ou of the way but to no avail. But it I used another window manager (see bugs #350794 and #350790). Now gcompris -a works. Even with my original database. So it seems to be a problem in conjunction with fvwm.
This bug is about 9.2.2 which is old. Closing WONTFIX. Reopen if there are issues with 9.6.1.
Current stable version 9.6.1 has the same problem.
The administration console need the python USE flag. Enabling it fixed the problem for me. => the flag is useless, or the ebuild cannot install the administration console if the python USE is disabled.
Tested with version 12.01 and ~x86 arch.
