No, you can and should configure syslog-ng to meet your individual needs.
Comment 3 Benny Pedersen 2011-01-07 09:03:34 UTC
i would like to reopen it to enhance ebuild to work on openvz installs, syslog-ng is just one ebuild that does not work very well when there is no consoles on tty

yes i agre that i should edit config myself, but since there is more then one ebuild that dont handle missing tty very well i would help others to make it more simple with gentoo to have a use flag to indicate that its virtual vps

i cant belive that i am the only one that running gentoo based vps :(

No, the *default* config is one that is generally useful for people. Since you're in the edge case you can just use a custom config for your purposes.
Comment 5 Benny Pedersen 2011-01-10 08:24:06 UTC
not even consider headless use flag ?

it should not be a problem to make a ebuild that do use it, and i just showed the problem is default not any limitions, could aswell had emailed to devs upstream to have it solve that way

but not solve it is imho not the best way when there is headless use flag ?

There's no end to the number of use flags that could be added to support various configurations. That's not the point of use flags though. They're intended to control optional features of a package that generally require more deps and might be generally useful. The situation you're describing is so far off the normal curve that it doesn't fit the criteria for adding a use flag.
