Description sp 2011-01-01 16:14:14 UTC
slapd will not start via the initscript or in any case using the -u flag and fails silently on hardened. Removing the -u flag allows startup to procede as normal.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge net-nds/openldap
2. /etc/init.d/slapd start
or:
2. start-stop-daemon --start --pidf ile /var/run/openldap/slapd.pid --exec /usr/lib/openldap/slapd -- -u ldap -g ldap -f /etc/openldap/slapd.conf
Actual Results:
slapd does not start and does not print or log any error messages

Expected Results:
slapd should be running

I can't reproduce this. All of Gentoo infra runs hardened and LDAP.
Please see the new slaptest changes in 2.4.28-r1. It's probably a bug in your ldap config, or the ownership on your files.

Turn up your logging level and read the logs when running slapd outside the init.d script, with the same args.

Bug is greater than one year old. Likely it was accidentally fixed in the meantime. I will be doing no further tests for this bug.
