There was a 0.99.6 release fixing the problem. But their use of autotools is still of questionable quality.
Workaround: link the vte include directory to /usr/include: ln -s /usr/include/vte-0.0/vte/ /usr/include/vte gtkterm then compiles.
Same problem here.

Created attachment 295799 [details, diff] Proposed fix This fix modifies 'configure.in' and 'configure' to fix the problem with the compiler not finding 'vte/vte.h'. I initially wanted to just modify 'configure.in' and run eautoreconf, but that caused more build problems, so I resorted to patching 'configure' directly. The ebuild needs changing to inherit eutils and apply the patch. ebuild patch to follow...

Patch works very well, thank you. I am not sure what you were referring to with problems patching configure.in. That is the file you should be patching not configure, and what you have provided is indeed the correct solution. Just a side note, the EAPI can be bumped to 4 without problems.

That is the file you should be patching > not configure, and what you have provided is indeed the correct solution. I mean that's what I tried first (just patching configure.in and running eautoreconf) but it got into a terrible mess, probably because the original Makefile.in files were generated with Automake 1.6.3 and the earliest I had installed was Automake 1.9.6. This could be fixed with appropriate dependencies in the ebuild, but it hardly seems worth it.

Have you tried upstream 0.99.7 RC?
(In reply to comment #16) > Have you tried upstream 0.99.7 RC? I already said in comment 2, that even 0.99.6 should fix this.
So this is another bug that is over 2 years old. Either put 0.99.7 in the trunk or remove the package entirely.
