anyone has idea how to do that or has an ebuild? bumping 1.6 is not good as the file comes as bundle and not as tar.gz Reproducible: Always
Good request, this ebuild definitly needs a version bump, I've spoken to vadim and I'll try to have an updated version out as soon as I have time.
Having a recent version of VIX is particularly useful now vmware-server is deprecated. It would appear that using VIX is the only sensible way to get vmware-player to run headless, but VIX 1.6 doesn't appear to know about player (just workstation and server), so I'm stuck using vmware-server on an old kernel until I can get a recent VIX.

app-emulation/vmware-vix-1.11.1.528992 is in the tree.
(In reply to comment #4) > app-emulation/vmware-vix-1.11.1.528992 is in the tree. This requires me to download "VMware-VIX-1.11.1-528992.i386.bundle" and suggests I get it from http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vix-api/ However, the latest version available at that web site appears to be "1.11.0 | 09/14/11 | 471780" Have they removed 1.11.1.528992, or is it available somewhere else?

Thanks, I have found it there now. It might be worth correcting the URL given in the emerge log so others don't have the same problem (unless vmware are going to update the VIX download page with the new release - not sure why it's not on there). A working URL is https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware/p/activate.php?p=player&lp=1 (this will request you to sign up / log in if you are not already logged in).
