Description Tim Redman 2010-12-20 16:45:01 UTC
Must be brain dead this morning. Usually problems like this don't kick my butt this quickly. I'm also seeing this on another machine as well.

Running a standard emerge. When installing PEAR-Mail, the following output is produced:

 * ERROR: dev-php/PEAR-Mail-1.2.0 failed:
 * Unable to install PEAR package
 *
 * Call stack:
 *     ebuild.sh, line  56:  Called src_install
 *   environment, line 895:  Called php-pear-r1_src_install
 * environment, line 833: Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *               peardev -d php_bin="${PHP_BIN}" -d www_dir="${WWW_DIR}" install --force --loose --nodeps --offline --packagingroot="${D}" "${S}/package.xml" || die "Unable to install PEAR package";

Not much else besides that is provided by emerge.

Reproducible: Always

Never mind. This is not a bug with PEAR-Mail. I noticed that some scheduled PHP scripts were running into errors because they couldn't find the command line binary for PHP.

When I did an emerge world, one of the first things it upgraded was PHP. There was an einfo in the PHP build that mentioned running eselect to select the active version of PHP to use for CLI, Apache, etc. Even though there was only one version of PHP on my system, it was never run automatically by the ebuild to set it as a default. Once I ran:

eselect php set cli php5.3
eselect php set apache2 php5.3

all was well. This may be at the very least an item of note for the PHP group.

But this did not work :(

/usr/bin/peardev:
# first find which PHP binary to use
if test "x$PHP_PEAR_PHP_BIN" != "x"; then
  PHP="$PHP_PEAR_PHP_BIN"
else
  if test "/usr/lib64/php5/bin/php" = '@'php_bin'@'; then
    PHP=php
  else
    PHP="/usr/lib64/php5/bin/php"
  fi
fi

As mentioned in #344023 an upgrade of PEAR-PEAR to 1.9.1-r3 maybe could fix this problem. I didn't test this and just quickfix /usr/bin/peardev.

If this works anybody should add the bug dependency and we should stabilize PEAR-PEAR-1.9.1-r3...
