Description Stefan Trenker 2010-12-12 16:37:02 UTC
When I try to share the Internet Connection of my Windows Mobile Phone with my laptop the phone says that my laptop does not support PAN networking (connection shareing is initiated by the phone).

Downgrading to net-wireless/bluez-4.39-r2 solves the issue, PAN works (no change of config file /etc/bluetooth/network.conf ... see attachment). But with newer versions of bluez (4.75, 4.77, 4.80, 4.81 ... the other versions in portage) PAN stops working.

I had this before (see Bug 336845).

From the past I know that PAN works with 4.71 as well, but this version is no longer contained in portage. Somehow Upstream added the bug again into bluez versions >4.71

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
PAN should work allways and everytime

My running network.conf
Comment 2 Pierre Cassimans 2010-12-14 10:31:36 UTC
I have exactly the same problem. Downgrading to 4.39-r2 fixed the problem.
By doing an "sdptool add NAP" on the newer versions, I saw with "sdptool browse" the service appear, but not if I asked about the available services for the access point with my phone. I was unable to connect to the NAP server either.

This is a duplicate of bug 336845

In that bug report I asked reporters to report this problem to upstream since this change was intentional as they think the network.conf you are using shouldn't be needed.

This has nothing to do with the network.conf file. Even with the default (empty) network.conf file from bluez >=4.75 PAN does not work. And PAN works with an empty network.conf with bluez-4.39-r2 (and 4.71)

English in not my mother tongue but, anyway, I still think that was not clear enough in your original comment when opening this bug report.

This is an upstream problem but, to help them find the problem, would be interesting if you could try with bluez-4.72, 4.73, 4.74... to locate what exact version included the regression. For that, you will probably be able to use the same ebuild than 4.71 (and probably even 4.81)
