Description David J Cozatt 2010-12-08 04:02:53 UTC
I did an emerge -e world and /var/log/portage/elog has accumulated:

david@random ~ $ ls -1 /var/log/portage/elog | wc -l
6838

Due some cleaning for sure. Something to add to logrotate? To the point though it takes a while to load the log files of course. I've always just hit CTRL-Z and copied some lines into the terminal to
update due to the messages. Lately couple of weeks it has just quit hitting any key after returning to the resumed elogv program.

program terminates when hitting any key after resuming with 'fg' as root or as user

Reproducible: Always

david@random ~ $ emerge --info elogv

Comment 1 David J Cozatt 2010-12-11 17:30:20 UTC
Okay a little further information. And this looks like it is related the terminal. start an elogv session and then suspend it. Start a new elogv then end it. resume old session and it crashes on the first keystroke.
Thinking this is vte.

There really needs to be either a cron script to clean and compress the logs for users. Or perhaps have portage run a helper to rotate these logs by date after a 'world' 'system' date. The later would actually help users sort elogs messages. ;)

Just a quick note that so far I have not been able to reproduce this issue.
Comment 3 David J Cozatt 2011-06-21 15:43:39 UTC
ran elogv and suspended then resumed process with strace first keypress produces output

Comment 4 David J Cozatt 2011-06-21 15:55:44 UTC
I don't think vte is installed anymore so this seems to be independent of that at least. And in an effort to help those unable to reproduce post the following.

This now happens at every resume of elogv in a terminal window,
Comment 6 Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2014-10-26 21:06:43 UTC
I pushed a patch [1] that I would like you to test:

  # git clone https://github.com/gentoo/elogv.git

  # cd elogv

  # ./elogv

  .. Hit Ctrl+Z ..

  # fg

Thanks!
