During the stabilization of the xorg-server-1.9 (bug 344827), I found that x11-libs/pixman-0.20.0 fails to build due to failing tests. Could be related due to "mmx sse2" USE flag combination. The problem seems to be only reproducible using gcc 4.4.4/4.4.5 (4.3.5 and 4.5.1 are fine) with -march=athlon-xp and -O2 optimization options (-O1 is also fine).
Adding toolchain to CC just in case, because there is a high probability that it's a bug in gcc, though a bug in pixman itself can't be totally ruled out yet too. If I get bored, I may also try to narrow it down.
I built it in an x86 chroot with -march=athlon-xp and all tests passed fine as well. Reporter: can you make a chroot with a fresh stage3 tarball, and verify if the test failure can be seen there?

Created attachment 259978 [details] gcc-4.4.5-pixman-0.20-emms-bug.txt (In reply to comment #4) > If I get bored, I may also try to narrow it down. Looks like some stray MMX instruction somehow diffuses outside of inlined function ''. Disassembly listing with some comments is attached. One more note is that "athlon-xp" together with "sse2" make a bit weird combination which is probably hardly tested by anyone.
I have reported a bug to gcc (not exactly this issue, but very related and reproducible with a simple testcase): http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47759 Next versions of pixman are going to be tweaked in order not to step on this bug anymore: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/pixman/2011-February/001037.html
This is fixed since pixman-0.21.6
