Description Martin Walch 2010-12-06 09:58:26 UTC
There is an experimental version of the wacom kernel module that will work with new kernels and xorg-server >= 1.7. I have made some quick & dirty changes to the ebuild of sys-kernel/linuxwacom-module-0.8.8_p10, so hopefully it can be already tested with this and maybe it can deliver some useful information (like a value for SRC_URI :)). However, a proper ebuild needs to be written.

slightly modified ebuild

This ebuilds dies now when configure fails. On some systems/kernel configurations, there is a nasty bug, that prevents the module to compile cleanly (linux/delay.h is not being included). I am currently looking into this.

Unfortunately I'm not skilled in writing ebuilds, but perhaps my build log can be helpful.

My failed build log for the 0.10.10 experimental ebuild

The previous attachment was obviously a mistake due to some weird problem with Firefox.

Sorry for taking so long. This ebuild contains a small sed patch that should make the module at least compile fine. (Still there will probably be several warnings and the module will not work out of the box)

since kernel 3.x.x series, i had the same problem but found out that if i turn on CONFIG_TABLET_USB_WACOM=m in kernel config for by wacom bamboo tablet. i do not recall exactly so i might be wrong, but i think i saw somewhere that bamboo support has been moved to kernel.
Comment 10 Patrick McMunn 2011-10-22 04:14:04 UTC
I have the Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch (CTH-460-DE), and I have not needed this package in a long time. The wacom module in the mainline kernel source works just fine now. You may want to ensure you have the proper udev rules installed, but as long as you have x11-drivers/xf86-input-wacom installed and CONFIG_TABLET_USB_WACOM=m/y enabled in your kernel config you should be just fine. I'd just consider sys-kernel/linuxwacom-module deprecated if you're using a recent kernel.

Probably could be treecleaned then
