Installing glade without USE=gnome does not pull gnome-icon-theme so that when one starts glade, the menu on the left side only displays broken icons unless it is changed to display text only. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. do not emerge gnome 2. emerge glade without "USE=gnome" 3. start glade Actual Results: unfriendly interface full of "broken icon"-icon Expected Results: a complete user interface, as advertised on http://glade.gnome.org/ USE=gnome pulls a lot of gnome-related things (as expected) and includes gnome-icon-themes. It is not the same to only depend on gnome-icon-theme and to depend on gnome. The other things pulled by USE=gnome really are optional. But glade appears broken without gnome-icon-theme so that it clearly is a runtime dep.
I'm not sure your problem is exactly related to that. There may be a problem in the code of glade making it not load its custom icons. Could you attach a snapshot showing the problem ?
well… I just unmerged gnome-icon-theme and then emerge --depclean to take the screenshot. Then started glade-3 and the menu icons are visible. I do not know what fixed my problem the first time and I am not able to reproduce the broken behavior. You may close this bug.
