Nowadays it seems that it is important to belong to the user group "video". For a newcomer to gentoo it might be difficult to understand that the lack of opengl (nvidia) support stems from that you are not in the video group. I see it as a small fix that might save time and frustration for a newcomer. Reproducible: Always
I am talking about chapter 11 "Finalizing your Gentoo Installation" (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml?full=1#book_part1_chap11)
No need. Until X and its drivers have been installed and configured, this group won't exist. Besides, it's already in the appropriate guides, such as the nVidia document: nvidia-guide.xml:# <i>gpasswd -a youruser video</i> If users aren't reading it there, repeating elsewhere won't help, especially in a document that has nothing to do with X or graphical desktops.
Okay. Solid reply. Thanks for taking the time.
In addition, the document URL you posted already includes a description of the "video" group.
(In reply to comment #3) > Okay. Solid reply. Thanks for taking the time. Thank YOU for taking the time to file the report in the first place! Please keep 'em coming. We won't always take the recommended action, but each report does help bring our attention to the guide to review it and notice any other issues it may have. Even bugs marked "WONTFIX" or "INVALID" help us keep an eye on our documents.
