Description Marcus J. van Dijk, Jr. 2003-11-29 04:46:55 UTC
Standard Gentoo ~x86 system. after rsyncing, bind had to be downgraded to 9.2.2. When I issue irssi now, I get this error:

vocis $ irssi
irssi: error while loading shared libraries: libbind.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I re-emerged bind, bind-tools and irssi-cvs, but the error keeps occuring.

Same happened here with irssi and vim.
Since both use perl as a scripting language, I tried reinstalling perl.
But that didn't help at all...
I couldn't fix this error for now.

Ah, stupid me... it's libperl, not perl :)
I didn't know there was a seperate ebuild for this... so I unmerged perl,
but there were still perl libraries in it. I removed them.
Then I merged perl again and it said:
libperl not found, are you sure libperl is installed?
Well, then I recompiled libperl and vim starts again.
now irssi at least loads... then it says:

Can't locate Symbol.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.2/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.2 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.2/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.2 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.2/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.2 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at (eval 9) line 9.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at (eval 9) line 9.

perhaps re-merging irssi will help...
