Description slick 2010-11-24 19:10:17 UTC
I play around with long names for tap devices and bridges

my /etc/conf.d/net:
-------------
config_tap_gate2br_filer=( "null" )
tuntap_tap_gate2br_filer="tap"
tunctl_tap_gate2br_filer="-u nobody -g kvm"

config_tap_filer2br_filer=( "null" )
tuntap_tap_filer2br_filer="tap"
tunctl_tap_filer2br_filer="-u nobody -g kvm"

brctl_br_filer=( "setfd 0" "stp off" )
bridge_br_filer="tap_gate2br_filer tap_filer2br_filer"
config_br_filer=( "null" )

depend_br_filer() {
        need net.tap_gate2br_filer net.tap_filer2br_filer
}
-------------

start the tap-devices works fine, but adding them to bridge fails.

-------------
localhost init.d # /etc/init.d/net.tap_filer2br_filer start
 * Starting tap_filer2br_filer
 *   Creating Tun/Tap interface tap_filer2br_filer ...    [ ok ]
 *   Bringing up tap_filer2br_filer                       [ ok ]
localhost init.d # /etc/init.d/net.tap_gate2br_filer start
 * Starting tap_gate2br_filer
 *   Creating Tun/Tap interface tap_gate2br_filer ...     [ ok ]
 *   Bringing up tap_gate2br_filer                        [ ok ]
localhost init.d # /etc/init.d/net.br_filer start
 * Starting br_filer
 *   Destroying bridge br_filer ...                       [ ok ]
 *   Creating bridge br_filer ...                         [ ok ]
 *   Adding ports to br_filer
 * network interface tap_gate2br_filer does not exist
 * Please verify hardware or kernel module (driver) [ !! ]
-------------

I test if it exists, it do (but the device name is cut)

-------------
localhost init.d # ifconfig tap_gate2br_filer
tap_gate2 Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 86:76:d1:e4:21:a1
          BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:500
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
-------------

adding tap_gate2br_filer to br_filer with brctl by hand works fine

localhost init.d # brctl addif br_filer tap_filer2br_filer

Probably net.lo does not check long device names correct?

additional information

After I rename the devices to shorter names, all works fine. Long names are the problem.

pretty sure it's already fixed in openrc
