I see two concerning things in your emerge --info.

1) Timestamp of tree.
2) LDFLAGS.

For comparision, my LDFLAGS:
% emerge --info |grep LDFLAGS
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1"

So, that tells me that you are only half way done with bootstrapping *or* you never did an emerge --sync as the directions state. Could that be true?
Comment 5 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2010-11-24 14:30:19 UTC
Sorry, I left out one important bit of info. The bootstrap process sets those LDFLAGS, emerge --sync in the directions will set default LDFLAGS (like mine) and you don't have to set anything yourself.
Comment 6 Jeffrey Ratcliffe 2010-11-26 14:44:50 UTC
After emerge --sync (and emerge -u world for good measure), cairo emerged without problem. Sorry for the noise.
