Description Maks Verver 2010-11-22 07:01:05 UTC
Attached is an ebuild for Golly v2.2.

This release provides some new features, most notably support for bounded grids. Additionally, the library compatibility and build process have been improved, simplifying the ebuild, and making the patches posted under bug #323219 obsolete.

Golly was released 8h ago. What you did here is called "0-day bump" request[1],[2]
As developers we _do_ sleep. Please give us time for reaction. Also don't CC maintainers yourself, just let bug-wranglers do their job.
Cheers,
Kacper Kowalik

I'm not just bumping, I'm contributing a new ebuild in order to save the maintainer the time and effort required to figure everything out from scratch. That wouldn't be very helpful if I waited for the maintainer to figure things out for himself first.

If you read some of the previous discussions on the topic of 0-day bump requests (e.g. http://www.mail-archive.com/gentoo-dev@lists.gentoo.org/msg29981.html) you'll see that some developers don't mind them and many users find them useful. I don't see the purpose of waiting two days when I have something to contribute now. In neither case should a bump request be interpreted as an instruction to drop everything else you're working on. It's just a notification that an update is available and that it should be added to portage at some point in the future.

Finally: I'm sure you can find more productive uses for your waking hours than picking on people that try to make a positive contribution to the project.

Yup, I forget to thank you for your submission. I am doing it now.
If I may suggest, please provide unified diff against previous versions. That saves maintainers some time

<snip> yeah I know that, that's why I've assigned it to maintainer rather than resolving it as invalid.
I've missed the part where I was picking on you, but I'm sorry if you felt offended.

I'm thankful for this kind of bump request.
