Please attach the environment file the build log mentions:

 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/pam-1.1.3/temp/environment'.
Comment 3 Rafał Mużyło 2010-11-17 16:48:31 UTC
The answer is likely 'unset path'.
Comment 4 Vikraman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-11-17 17:48:03 UTC
I just downgraded sys-auth/pambase from 20101024 to 20100925 and it compiles fine.
Comment 5 Tiziano Müller (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-12 08:23:35 UTC
Had the same problem today with pam-1.1.5 on an installation from stage3 using sysresccd-2.5.0 which had the $path variable set and it (partially) leaked into the chroot environment.
The main cause of the problem might be if someone is using a zsh (which is the default shell in sysresccd) which sets $path to $PATH with s/:/ /
Comment 6 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-12 18:52:48 UTC
Use `chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/su -` to chroot from sysrescuecd.

This worked for me using SysRescueCD 2.6.0 and =sys-libs/pam-1.1.5

Thank you!

If the env is not sanitized I'm afraid there is nothing more I can do.
