Description Tomasz 'Trog' Welman 2010-11-07 19:18:28 UTC
I'm running the system, then services like:
dbus
consolekit
hal
are being started.
Then I login as root in the console, and:
/etc/init.d/xdm start
few seconds later I see mouse cursor for ~2 seconds (cannot move it) on a black screen. Then the mouse disappears, and I end up with black screen, and completely freezed computer. I can't do nothing except hard restart. :-(

However, when after I login, before I run
/etc/init.d/xdm start
I run:
/etc/init.d/dbus restart
(dbus,consolekit,hal will restart here)
and then I start xdm, it's working perfectly.

I've tried all available nvidia drivers for that. Masked, not masked, downloaded directly from NVIDIA site, so this may not be NVIDIA/GLX issue; an remember after dbus restart KDE works.

Anyone can help?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
run the system
login as root
start /etc/init.d/xdm
Actual Results:
the system freezes completely

Expected Results:
KDE starts and works properly.

I've installed from iso/stage3: 20101021.

Can you please try disabling compositing in xorg.conf ?!
What happens with the nv driver?
Please attach your kernel .config!
Comment 4 Tomasz 'Trog' Welman 2011-01-14 21:59:21 UTC
This was actually a bug in xorg. I've reinstalled xorg-server, some of the xorg libraries and drivers (keyboard, mouse, evdev) and the problem disappeared. By reinstall i mean an uprade to a newer version.

OK, thank you! :) Another bug down the drain...
