ies4linux as of version 2.99.0.1 still depends on wineprefixcreate, which has been removed from wine in version 1.2 ( see here: http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.2 ) When choosing to install Internet Explorer 6.0 and/or 7.0, it downloads the necessary files and then complains that it cannot find wineprefixcreate, and guesses that your Wine version is too old (ha!) Steps to reproduce: 1) Run ies4linux 2) Make sure 6.0 is checked (it is by default). Alternatively, go to Advanced and check 7.0 3) Click OK Here is the log from ies4linux: --- IEs4Linux will: - Install Internet Explorers: 6.0 - Using IE locale: EN-US - Install everything at: /home/dusik/.ies4linux [ OK ] Downloading everything we need Downloading from microsoft.com: DCOM98.EXE mfc42.cab 249973USA8.exe ADVAUTH.CAB CRLUPD.CAB HHUPD.CAB IEDOM.CAB IE_EXTRA.CAB IE_S1.CAB IE_S2.CAB IE_S5.CAB IE_S4.CAB IE_S3.CAB IE_S6.CAB SETUPW95.CAB FONTCORE.CAB FONTSUP.CAB VGX.CAB SCR56EN.CAB [ OK ] Installing IE 6 Initializing Creating Wine Prefix Your wine does not have wineprefixcreate installed. Maybe you are running an old Wine version. Try to update it to the latest version.
Hmm maybe its time to remove this ies4linux thingie. Most browsers support IE emulation anyway
The homepage is empty (?) http://www.ies4linux.org/
Apparently, it's never been moved from its original location: http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/ The last news update was in June, 2008.
I'm still using it with the latest Wine, and it works just fine. It may be necessary to install an older Wine to install ies4linux, but once it's installed, there's no restriction. I have no idea what Markos is talking about for IE Emulation. Sure, I twiddle the user agent, but that doesn't make pages that use IE-specific behaviors work.

Suggesting using an old version to install it, and then upgrade to a newer one and use it, does not seem a sane solution to me
