Running the tests on perl on SPARC64 has 13 failures out of approx 1400 tests, which is definitely a regression from dev-lang/perl-5.8.8-r8 which had *NO* test failures. I include the information and logs as required for further investigation.

dev-lang/perl-5.12.2-r2 no longer in the tree. dev-lang/perl-5.16.3 (current stable) does not fails for me.
