i am emerging suacomp because of mduft's note on a python-2.6.5-r2 bug 341359, which i need because i think python-2.6.4 is affected by http://bugs.python.org/issue7242 (Forking in a thread raises RuntimeError). unfortunately emerging python-2.6.5-r2 without suacomp seems to seriously break something on interix-3.5, because emerge's fork points (wgetting files etc) simply hang now. i'm debugging this further and will probably be filing a new bug when i find out a bit more.

or are these python problems a result of compiling it without suacomp?

ouch - i knew the day would come, that somebody would try this on XP :[

i honestly did not try (yet). i wanted to get things working on the current SUA versions, before getting to XP, so most of the XP support is more or less "guessed" for now.

i'm afraid it will take another few days to weeks until i get to this.

ok thanks for the update. but does or does not this mean that emerging python-2.6.5 is also unsafe on XP, since we can't have suacomp for now? looking at what happens with it, it certainly feels this way..

yep. python won't work without suacomp, as symbols will be missing otherwise.

Comment 4 Markus Duft (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-11-04 15:13:47 UTC
you're lucky: i had some spare time, so i just fixed suacomp for xp, made a new release and bumped the ebuilds. 0.6.6 should hit the rsync mirrors in a few minutes :)

have phun ;)
