Description Dustin Polke 2010-11-02 12:08:57 UTC
After upgrading from midori-0.2.6 to 0.2.8, all my bookmarks are gone, the Bookmarks' menu entry just states grayed-out <Empty>.
If I add a new bookmark, I can either add it to 'Toplevel folder' or the the first folder of my old bookmark hierarchy. The first choice adds the bookmark successfuly, the latter propbably adds the bookmark to the chosen folder (no error message) but the folder itself is not shown.

Exporting my bookmarks from 0.2.6 before upgrading and then reimporting the bookmarks does not work, none is shown.

I suspect that maybe German umlauts in bookmark titles might be the reason to corrupt the bookmarks' database. I will investigate further.

Reproducible: Always

http://www.twotoasts.de/bugs/ is propably more suitable place for this report.

also, can you reproduce this with a new user? install 0.2.6, start it as new user, bookmark something and upgrade to 0.2.8.

(upstream will need this information.)
Comment 2 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-11-02 12:18:44 UTC
or instead of new user, try with "midori -c /tmp/test" to avoid the default instance

Sample bookmark file to reproduce this issue

I did the following with this small excerpt from my bookmark file, which I exported from midori-0.2.6:

1) Install midori-0.2.6
2) midori -c /tmp/test
3) Import bookmarks (this file)
4) Make sure they are in the Bookmarks' menu
5) Upgrade to midori-0.2.8
6) midori -c /tmp/test
7) Bookmarks are gone in the menu

thanks. please report it to http://www.twotoasts.de/bugs/ too with that information and (add the url to upstream bug in the URL: field here).

done. Upstream bug URL added.

I leave it to the maintainer to decide whether this should hold up stabilization (bug 343735).
Comment 6 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-12-18 18:06:06 UTC
well, let's see... too quiet here:

- 0.2.9 is current stable
- new installs are not affected
- fix to this comes from upstream, if anywhere

so closing as UPSTREAM ->
