Hmm, cannot reproduce here.
This assertion basically is because the idl compiler cannot resolve the ip address using gethostbyname(). IIRC, I did have this same problem somewhere because something in the network setup was broken and "localhost" (iirc) could not be resolved...

OTOH, maybe related:
Portage 2.1.8.3 (default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop/gnome, gcc-4.5.1, glibc-2.11.2-r0, 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 x86_64)

While temporary having gcc-4.5.1, I cannot install same recent glibc and kernel that easily here...
Comment 3 Michael Haubenwallner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-12-01 09:59:42 UTC
mico-2.3.13-r4 now listens to CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS.
Before, '-g' and '-O*' have been filtered out by configure.

Comment 6 Michael Haubenwallner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-29 11:53:07 UTC
For mico-2.3.13-r5 now I've added some patch for that resolve_ip() to print debug output for what it does and why it fails, enabled via USE=findbug:

$ USE=findbug emerge mico

This also forces -j1 to emake.

Here, the idl compiler writes this output now (shrinked for readability)

for gentoo bug#343827: resolve_ip() for <this is the start of each line>
<> hostname '0.0.0.0' using ::inet_addr()... succeeded.
<> hostname 's01en24' using ::inet_addr()... failed, using ::gethostbyname() without threads... succeeded.
<> hostname '172.28.8.170' using ::inet_addr()... succeeded.
<> hostname '172.28.8.170' using ::inet_addr()... succeeded.
<> hostname '172.28.8.170' using ::inet_addr()... succeeded.
<> hostname '172.28.8.170' using ::inet_addr()... succeeded.
<> <same line several times>

Let's see if it helps to track down the problem.

Build.log

This should be the one you want.
Comment 8 Michael Haubenwallner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-11-25 15:15:41 UTC
Now I can see this problem on some virtual RHEL 4.9 in Prefix, when I disconnect the (virtual) network cable, so the IP-address of `hostname` cannot be resolved:

$ ping $(hostname)

Are you able to run this without error?
Comment 9 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-06-21 10:07:54 UTC
I see what you meant, no I can't `ping $(hostname)` indeed... is there any chance you can get this to build anyway?
Comment 10 Michael Haubenwallner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-09-24 20:41:53 UTC
Should work in mico-2.3.13-r6, the idl-compiler itself shouldn't try to resolve any hostname at all any more - hopefully without breaking anything else.
