Description Dirk Salewski 2003-11-25 13:20:48 UTC
When running opengl programs like glxgears or bzflag, performance is very poor
and after some seconds the whole system locks hard. At that time the only thing
that works is mousemovements on the screen, but nothing else. Even the keyboard
is completely dead: <Ctrl><Alt><Back> and <Ctrl><Alt><Fn> do not work and the
keyleds are not changeable (=> kernel dead?).

xfree-4.3.0-r3
xfree-drm-4.3.0-r6

Strange: Using 'Option "UseCCEFor2D" "True"' in /etc/X11/XF86Config made
glxgears run 4 times faster than normal and bzflag crash after twice the normal
time. Still, the crash is inevitable.

Some setup information:

dmesg:
Linux version 2.4.22_ds01 (root@phoenix) (gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Lin
ux 1.4 3.2.3-r2, propolice)) #3 Fri Nov 7 22:04:06 CET 2003

cat /proc/cpuinfo:

vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
cpu family : 5
model : 13
model name : AMD-K6(tm)-III Processor

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. startx
2. xterm
3. glxgears
Actual Results:
Performance is nowhere near acceptable levels and no devices except the mouse
worked after 5 - 15 seconds. The complete system is dead, even the kernel gives
up service. The system can't even spit out a failure message into the logs.

Expected Results:
opengl programs should run like a charm! Even if not (it's not a strong gpu),
the keyboard should at least react to input ;-(

Dirk, has this problem shown up in xorg-x11 as well?
Comment 3 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-03 01:52:30 UTC
Please reopen if you add info.
Comment 4 Dirk Salewski 2005-03-18 00:44:09 UTC
Sorry for the late reply: I can't check whether the bug remains with xorg-x11, because I switched to a new system.
