Description Mattia Gheda 2010-10-30 22:57:52 UTC
trying to install firefox ebuild which depends on xulrunner...

xulrunner fails to compile with this error:

... some checks...
checking if app-specific confvars.sh exists... ./xulrunner/confvars.sh
checking for gtk+-2.0 >= 2.10.0 gtk+-unix-print-2.0 glib-2.0 gobject-2.0 gdk-x11-2.0... Package gdk-x11-2.0 was ot found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gdk-x11-2.0.pc' to the KG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gdk-x11-2.0' found
configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.10.0 gtk+-unix-print-2.0 glib-2.0 gobject-2.0 gdk-x11-2.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard pref x so pkg-config can find them.

so the problem seems to be that he can't fine gdk-x11-2.0, which in fact is not there

I've tried to make this softlink
into usr/lib/pkgconfig dir

ln -s gdk-2.0.pc gdk-x11-2.0.pc

and compile goes on
until another error:

how was your gtk+ compiled?
Comment 2 Mattia Gheda 2010-11-01 00:42:40 UTC
mmm sorry for my n00bness... what info do you need?

this are the use flag I have enabled...

gtk+-2.20.1-r1(2)(18:22:10 10/28/10)(aqua jpeg -cups -debug -doc -introspection -jpeg2k -test -tiff -vim-syntax -xinerama)

tell me what else do you need and if I can i'll tell you!

thankx!
Comment 3 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2010-11-01 07:16:37 UTC
Ok, then you're in trouble. On the Mac, we build gtk+ with the Aqua frontend (native window manager stuff, instead of X11). xulrunner expects gtk+ with X11 frontend. Do you really need xulrunner? It's going to be a nasty road to get there. You better try to get Camino's sources in Portage, but that's going to be a challenge too.
Comment 4 Mattia Gheda 2010-11-01 11:33:28 UTC
well... I just wanted to install the X11 firefox version.. 'cause I'm running osx but wanted to use an X11 window manager for xterms and other devs stuff...
and having a browser into X11 would be great...

If you say it's challenging we can leave it... there are other methods(i.e. fink) apart from gentoo-prefix to install firefox on x11 and i can use one of them...

thanks as usual!
Comment 5 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2010-11-01 11:34:55 UTC
If you want to go that way, make sure you force USE="-aqua X", and rebuild whatever changes due to that. That makes sure you won't use native stuff.

I don't think anything needs fixing here, reopen if I'm wrong
