Upstream claims dragonplayer doesn't have hard dependency on xine-lib. Disabling it makes sense when gstreamer is used as phonon backend (and dragonplayer uses phonon for playback) Applies to all versions of dragonplayer in tree.
For ease, the commit that allows xine-lib to be optional is listed here: http://websvn.kde.org/?revision=849723&view=revision
It is now the phonon-vlc plugin that also removes the dependencies to xine. Dragonplayer compiled with a modified ebuild without xine-lib works well.
Created attachment 260560 [details] Updated ebuild The attached ebuild makes the dependency on xine-lib optional by adding the "xine" flag to IUSE.
Fixed at least since 4.6.1 (dragonplayer depends only on phonon there, so the choice of backend is yours)
