Description Linear Systems Tech Svcs. 2010-10-28 21:35:36 UTC
I was trying to emerge wine-1.2 which failed out during the configure stage, complaining that "FreeType development files not found. Fonts will not be built."

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge wine
2.
3.

Actual Results:
tech7 linux # emerge -v wine

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Build log of emerge failure with wine-1.2
Comment 2 Linear Systems Tech Svcs. 2010-10-28 21:51:35 UTC
As suggested by the failed-emerge output:

~ # emerge -pvq wine
[ebuild U ] app-emulation/wine-1.2 [1.1.12] USE="X alsa cups dbus* gecko gsm%* jpeg lcms ldap* mp3%* ncurses opengl oss* perl%* png%* samba ssl%* threads%* truetype%* xinerama%* xml* (-capi) -custom-cflags% (-esd) -fontconfig% -gnutls (-gphoto2) (-hal) -jack -nas -openal% -pulseaudio% (-scanner) -test% -win64% -xcomposite%"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: When searching bugs.gentoo.org for this error, I see that about half the entries for wine-1.2* are version bumps for versions that are not in the portage tree. As of this writing (having --sync'd today), the *ONLY* version for wine-1.2* is =app-emulation/wine-1.2.ebuild. All >=app-emulation/wine-1.3 are still keyword-masked.

Second config.log after an "emerge -uvDN world"

Well, after all the issues I was experiencing before, I had gotten to a point of doing the full system upgrade to make sure that the libpng12 issue was finally put to rest. I suspect that the issues I was seeing with the freetype libraries may have had something to do with the packages that were still set for libpng12.so.0. The 'deep' upgrade on world did, in fact, fix a couple remaining packages that were not updated with the "revdep-rebuild -L /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0" so, this is not the same config.log that was from the above failure, but it is from the same system and is still showing failures when it comes to freetype libraries.

If I can find a system that will fail in the same fashion, I will post the config.log from that system too, but here is the last config.log from the build of wine-1.2 as part of an "emerge -uvDN world".
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2010-11-22 18:52:49 UTC
so your freetype was probably broken due to missing revdep rebuild

Well, at least an incomplete revdep-rebuild, since I kept trying over and over to get that resolved, which is part of why this update was scheduled in the first place. As a note, here is part of the history to show how many different ways I had to try to get that libpng12 nastiness resolved:

The huge emerges at the top are just rebuilds of the revdep lists that were coming up from the earlier attempts at 'revdep-rebuild -L /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0'.

Thanks for your time and attention to this. As a side note, if the warning to grab the config.log were reiterated at the bottom of the failed emerge along with the other warning output of the failed emerge, I think I'd have been sure to grab that one too. Again, my apologies and thanks for your time.
