I'd like to suggest changing the default tune2fs settings on a newly installed Gentoo system to i=0, with (optionally) advice printed every 60 days or so during boot up stating that it may be a good idea to run fsck every so often. I'm suggesting this because on a new system with a 1 TB drive using ext3, it took over 5 minutes to run fsck on boot up. This was annoying to someone like me who knows how to check disks for errors manually. It's easy enough for even a n00b to do. It appears to me that as drives become larger, this process will take longer and perhaps more people will simply be annoyed. Such a forced default check is unique to Gentoo, in my experience. I've not seen this on other Linux distros and operating systems I've used. Reproducible: Always
I don't think this is a good idea but let's see what maintainers think about his
yeah, this isnt a good fit for everyone
