Comment 3 Mamoru KOMACHI (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-26 08:35:58 UTC
Sorry for replying late. Recent w3m includes m17n and unicode support
and defaults to enable them but there is no way to disable them
(I think it's a bug and reported to upstream). What I think happening
in your case is that w3m-0.4.2-r3 uses UTF-8 by default if USE="-cjk"
and if you use UTF-8 incapable terminal it will show strange characters.

For the time being I make US-ASCII as default charset (w3m-0.4.2-r4).
If you want to use graphic character for table and horizontal line and so on,
please enable "Use graphic char for border of table and menu" under
"Display Settings" category of w3mhelperpanel (press "o" to get helper
panel when running w3m).
Comment 4 Mamoru KOMACHI (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-21 08:45:00 UTC
I suppose the problem does not still exist.
Comment 5 Aron Griffis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-21 09:04:11 UTC
right, it seems to be fine now (in -r4 and -r6)
