The apache mod_cgid is no more in the use flags, its now in the APACHE2_MODULES A warning is issued during apache upgrade, but its easy to miss it and the problem seems to have hitted many gentoo users. I was thinking it could be a good thing to ad 2 or three lines on : http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/apache/doc/troubleshooting.xml Probably, adding in the 4. Webserver doesn't interpret PHP or CGI scripts and returns their code instead something like : After upgrading to apache-2-2-16, the use flag cgi is no more used, you have to add cgi ( or cgid depending on your MPM ) in the APACHE2_MODULES in your make.conf , or apache wont restart removing the line : LoadModule cgi_module modules/mod_cgi.so allows apache to start, but you ll have no more cgi and this will break awstats and other cgi webapps
Since this only affects upgrades, and the upgrade occurred several years ago, I think our opportunity to do any good here has passed. Suggesting RESOLVED: OBSOLETE and assigning to current apache maintainer.
Nearly four years old. I doubt this affects many users today.
